Sanctuary and Serenity

Safe – Merrymax

Posted on: April 3, 2010

Last night, a little brown-eyed girl
Reached across the years to me
I welcomed her tentatively, brushed back a curl
And asked  what she wanted to be

“Safe,” said she in a trembling tone
As she led me to a secret place
“Dreams are no substitute for a home,”
She whispered with tears on her face.

“It’s over,”  I tried to tell her and smiled
But she shook her head with a sigh
“We have to learn to get through each mile
And hold one another when we cry.”

I made her a promise to always be there
To explore life and how good it could be
We touched across time, a new bond to share
The woman and the child in me.
